Resin shower trays. What is gel coat and its benefits in bathroom design

The gel coat is a formulation for the coating of materials that confers incomparable durability and resistance.

One of the most revolutionary materials created by McBath 's laboratories is Acrystone®, the technology they apply to shower trays, panels and countertops for washbasins. It is based on a mass of mineral fillers bonded to recycled polyester resins, covered by a thick outer layer of 700 micron gel coat.

But what is the gel coat and what benefits does it have for the bath?

The gel coat used in shower trays, panels and bathroom countertops made of Acrystone® is a high-quality coating material, created with unsaturated ISO NPG polyester resins, traditionally used in sanitary applications as well as in the naval and aeronautical industry.

The main advantage of this technology is the lightness of the mass and the great resistance of the thicker and more advanced protective layer of gel coat. Through a perfected formulation, they have obtained shower trays, panels and countertops that are very safe and durable, with a high resistance to hydrolysis. Shower trays that have gel coat are able to withstand high mechanical and thermal stress, and are non-slip to a high degree.

Another notable advantage is the hardness of the gel coat layer. This characteristic, together with its thick thickness, make the surface of the shower tray much more resistant than other manufacturing techniques, such as paints of various kinds and low thickness. In this way, trays made with Acrystone® are much more resistant to accidental impacts such as the fall of a gel bottle, or a brass hand shower.

In addition to these benefits, it can be regenerated using a repair kit, in the unlikely event that cracks may arise, restoring the product to its original state.

This gel coat can be padded with excellent resistance to discoloration. In addition to standard colours for these products, any colour from the RAL chart can be applied. mcbath 's R+D team has taken a step beyond spot colors. Thanks to this technology, Acryprint® is able to apply decorations inspired by natural stones on the gel coat.
