Absorción de agua
La capacidad de absorber aguan es la principal propiedad que debemos conocer, es junto con el color de la materia prima, una de las cualidades que le da nombre a las baldosas cerámicas. Además otra propiedad como la resistencia a las heladas depende de esta misma. Dependerá de lo siguiente:
- Gres porcelánico: Absorción < 0.5 - Para las paredes y suelos interiores y exteriores
- Barro cocido: 6≥ Absorción > 15 - Paredes y suelos interiores y exteriores ( esta no resiste a las heladas)
- Azulejos: Absorción ≥ 10 - Paredes interiores
- Gres espesorado: 0.5 ≥ Ab > 3 - Para las paredes y suelos interiores y exteriores
- Gres esmaltado: 3 ≥ Absorción > 15 - Suelos y paredes interiores.
Cuando hablamos de la propiedad o característica antihielo en el suelo debemos de saber que no todas las baldosas tienen esta característica, y es fundamental conocerlo, ya que será necesario para poder instalarla en el exterior del hogar.
Para saber si el suelo para exterior es antihielo nos deberemos de ir a la normativa antihielo ISO 10545-12 y consiste en someter 100 ves una muestra a cambios de temperatura que van desde los -5ºC a los 5ºC, previamente sumergidas en el agua.
En el caso que supere esta prueba, la baldosa se asumirá que tiene la característica de "Antihielo".
Esta es una característica exclusiva para los pavimentos, y responde a la capacidad al deslizamiento o el resbalamiento de las piezas cerámicas.
Son 4 las clases de Resistencia al deslizamiento (conocido también como Rd) según las normas:
- Rd ≥ 15 Clase 0
- 15 < Rd ≤ 35 Clase 1
- 35 < Rd ≤ 45 Clase 2
- Rd > 45 Clase 3
También se tendrán que ver las clases mínimas exigidas a los suelos en función a su localización
Zonas secas
- Superficies con pendiente igual o mayor que el 6% y escaleras - Clase 2
